Honduras has managed to take the last step towards resolving its parliamentary crisis.

The dispute over who will lead the newly elected Congress was resolved thanks to an agreement, in which the dissident deputy from the ruling party, Jorge Cálix , agreed to withdraw his claim to lead the Congress, allowing Luis Redondo , an ally of President Xiomara Castro , to assume leadership.

"Let it be clear that I am not here thinking about my political career. I am here because I understand that the most important thing is the country, peace in Honduras, the stability of the government, the strengthening of the rule of law, and that is above my interests and what I want" , declared Cálix.

In addition, the 17 dissident deputies who had been expelled from the ruling Liberal and Refoundation Party, or Libre , had their rights and positions restored, and they ended up recognizing Redondo, from the Salvador Honduras Party, (PSH) as president of Parliament.Congressman Ramón Soto Bonilla said:

"Although at one point we did not share the proposed strategy, today, based on what is expressed in this agreement, we are willing to respect the decision to support deputy Luis Redondo Guifarro to preside over the Board of Directors of the National Congress, in compliance with the party's mandate. and our president

To have at least a simple majority in Parliament, Libre must have its 50 deputies, the 10 of the PSH and at least another five from parties such as the Liberal (22) and those of the Christian Democracy (1) and the Anticorruption (1) .
